What if the way to find out how everything is instrumented comes from STRETCHING atoms instead of smashing them?  There has to be a way to manipulate individual quarks, and stretch or move them around.  Where do the forces emanate from?  How does the matter even exist to begin with?  What does anti-matter even look like?
